Though there are some who use the terms interchangeably, Ceramic tile and Porcelain tile do indeed have different qualities, and as such different applications. Ceramic tile is made from natural red, brown, or white clay that’s been permanently hardened by heat.
Porcelain tile is made the same way, but only with white clay. As such, it’s more resistant to water, more stain resistant and more hardwearing compared with Ceramic tile. There are different applications for each, but the general rule of thumb is that Ceramic tile should not be installed outdoors as it absorbs too much water.
Opinions on the uses and benefits of each can vary greatly; Van Isle Tile is happy to offer suggestions or recommendations specific to your requirements.
